The Internet Journal of Restorative Justice (IJRJ) is a free, international peer-reviewed e-journal in the field of restorative justice.

IJRJ' primary aim is to publish scholarly and peer-reviewed articles of the highest standard from many areas of expertise including restorative practices in schools, neighbourhoods, organizations and businesses, family matters and (youth) care, restorative justice in the criminal and juvenile justice system, restorative justice in prison settings and restorative aftercare. Key aims include:

•  Inform and influence social justice policy at national and international levels
• Enable those with limited resources to freely access scholarly and peer-reviewed articles on restorative justice including students, practitioners and the public
• Push the barriers of restorative justice and challenge conventional approaches
• Enable junior researchers to publish alongside leading names in restorative justice and encourage a dialogue between various generations of academics
• Increase awareness of the restorative justice concept and help address misconceptions about its potential and limitations.

International Symposia on Restorative Justice & Human Rights

1st International Symposium on the Philosophy of Restorative Justice & Human Rights

The first Symposium was held in Skopelos between 2-7 June 2012. This unique event brought together an exclusive group of 21 leading international names from the field of restorative justice and human rights. The event took the format of an ancient Greek symposium allowing for in-depth discussions on papers that will later be published as part of an edited Volume. The event was supported by the the Mayor of Skopelos.

IARS' Restorative Justice Research Network in partnership with Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and the Hellenic Social Mediation Centre in Greece established the bi-annual, International Symposium on Restorative Justice & Human Rights held in Skopelos island. The initiative is led by Prof. Vasso Artinopoulou and Dr. Theo Gavrielides .

Welcome to Hellenic Social Mediation Center!

Hellenic Social Mediation Center is a non-profit organization. Its main objective is to promote and establish Mediation procedures in Greece.

Mediation is a well-known practice of conflict resolution, which can take place in everyday social life as well as in legal context. Despite the existence of cultural differences among people and countries, Mediation is increasingly applied worldwide.

Having its roots in indigenous communities, ancient Greece, Rome Empire, and Asian countries, Mediation is commonly used today in a variety of contexts (such as community, family, school, workplace, civil and criminal law) and regardless of age, gender, nationality and socio-economic background of individuals.

Mediation is a process that provides a neutral and structured context in which the parties are equal and supported by a trained mediator in order to reach a mutually agreed solution to their dispute, conflict or any other problem.

As such, Mediation is described as:

• Simple and Easy
• Accessible to Everyone
• Structured
• Time-saving and Concise
• Alternative to Court Procedures
• Taking place in a Pleasing Environment
• A way to achieve more Satisfactory Communication

Το Ελληνικό Κέντρο Κοινωνικής Διαμεσολάβησης είναι μια μη κερδοσκοπική εταιρία με στόχο την ανάδειξη και καθιέρωση της διαμεσολάβησης στην ελληνική πραγματικότητα.

Η διαμεσολάβηση είναι μια ευρέως διαδεδομένη πρακτική επίλυσης των συγκρούσεων, κοινωνικού αλλά και νομικού χαρακτήρα, που ολοένα και εφαρμόζεται σε όλες τις χώρες του κόσμου ανεξάρτητα από τις πολιτισμικές τους ιδιαιτερότητες. Με ρίζες από την Αρχαία Ελλάδα και την Ρωμαϊκή Αυτοκρατορία, αλλά και από Ασιατικές χώρες (π.χ. Κίνα, Μαλαισία), η διαμεσολάβηση χρησιμοποιείται στη σύγχρονη εποχή ως μέσο ειρηνικής επίλυσης των συγκρούσεων σε ένα εύρος πλαισίων (κοινότητα, οικογένεια, σχολείο, εργασιακός χώρος, νομικά θέματα αστικού και ποινικού δικαίου κ.α.), και ανεξαρτήτως της ηλικίας, του φύλου, της εθνικότητας και της κοινωνικό-οικονομικής κατάστασης των ατόμων.

Τυπικά, η διαμεσολάβηση αποτελεί μια διαδικασία κατά την οποία ένα τρίτο ουδέτερο άτομο – ο διαμεσολαβητής βοηθά στην ειρηνική επίλυση μιας διαφωνίας, σύγκρουσης ή οποιουδήποτε άλλου προβλήματος μεταξύ δύο (ή και περισσοτέρων) διαφωνούντων ατόμων, μέσα σε ένα ουδέτερο και ελεγχόμενο πλαίσιο που διέπεται από την ισότητα των συμβαλλόμενων μερών, με στόχο οι διαφωνούντες να καταλήξουν σε μια κοινά αποδεκτή και ώριμη συμφωνία και επίλυση της σύγκρουσης.

Ως τέτοια, η διαμεσολάβηση είναι:

•  Εύκολη και κατανοητή προς όλους
• Προσιτή σε κάθε άτομο
• Άμεση διαδικασία με αρχή και τέλος
• Καθόλου χρονοβόρα
• Δίχως την εμπλοκή δικαστικών διαμαχών
• Γίνεται σε ευχάριστο περιβάλλον
• Παρέχει τις βάσεις για καλύτερες και πιο εποικοδομητικές σχέσεις και επικοινωνία.
