At a critical point in time for Greece, UK and Europe, three key organisations are bringing together leading international experts in the field of human rights and restorative justice to explore new avenues to deal with growing levels of violence. The symposium is organised under the leadership of Prof. Theo Gavrielides and Prof. Vasso Artinopoulou.
The organising bodies are IARS' Restorative Justice Research Network , Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Greece) and the Hellenic Social Mediation Centre (Greece).
The event is formatted as an
ancient Greek symposium, allowing for in-depth discussions on papers
that will be published as part of an edited volume by the Canada-based De Sitter Publications.
This high profile, focused,
scientific and interdisciplinary event will influence and promote
restorative justice and human rights issues in academia, research and
policy areas internationally. A more holistic approach to the rising
levels of criminality, riots and human
rights abuses is needed.
Some
of the international experts joining the symposium include: Prof.
Brenda Morrison, Simon Fraser University (Canada), Prof. Gerry
Johnstone, Hull University (UK), Prof. Susan Sharpe, Notre Dame Law
School (USA), Prof. Martha Schiff, Florda Atlantic University (USA),
Prof. John Winterdyk, Mount Royal University (Canada). More detailed
information on the Symposium and the other delegates can be found here.
Sponsorship
Sponsors,
donors and supporters are an integral part of the Symposium. As a
registered charity, IARS relies on support from companies and
individuals to help us carry out our work and make a difference in
society. While delegates are covering their own travel and accommodation
costs, we are seeking support from sponsors who will help enable us to
cover:
- The launch reception opened by the Mayor, Prof. Artinopoulou and Dr. Gavrielides
- Food & drinks for the duration of the Symposium
- Inland transportation
